There are two things you can count on in spring: mess and taxes. Here are some tips that may help you mop up the mess. The non-financial mess, that is.

  1. Mud. The kids have been waiting for months to go outside. Their pent-up energy is bursting at the seams and they need to run wildly through the park, the creek, the marsh, the mud flats, and then, unfortunately, your house. Quickly, set up a towel barrier in the foyer -- or every room in your home will become the “mud room.”
  2. Allergies & colds. Headaches, runny eyes and nose, sneezing…. and that’s just from the preschool teacher’s patchouli oil. Just when you thought winter was over, out come allergies and colds for Spring. Follow these tips to prevent the spread of cold germs . And might we suggest some new body wash as a gift for that teacher?
  3. Flowers. Many times a walk in the park will result in pant legs doused in colored flower pollen. It’s best to safely enjoy the beauty of Spring through the plastic visor of a sealed hazmat suit. But if not, you can at least get the grass stains out.
  4. Berry stains. Berries are totally worth the stains they give. They are filled with antioxidants and vitamins and fiber, and they taste wonderful. However, to avoid stains it’s best not to let them touch your shirt, pants, counter, teeth or lips.

As for those taxes, you’re on your own.

How would you describe this tip?
