Celebrating Spring Inside and Out

Spring has sprung and what better way to celebrate than with some gardening tips from guest blogger, Cindy over at Skip to my Lou where she shares crafts, sewing tutorials, paper crafts, recipes and more. Check it out!
For a flower lover like me, spring is a wonderful time of year. I look forward to seeing flowers blooming and popping up everywhere.
Whether you love to garden or consider it a chore, a few of my tips will help make your backyard bloom this season.
- Pots full of soil can be a pain to carry around the patio. Fill the bottom of really large pots with empty milk cartons to take up space before filling with dirt. This will help save of the amount of dirt needed and make pots a little less heavy and easier to move.
- Did you know that the same product you’re using inside for spring cleaning is also great for your outdoor spring chores? One of my favorite, newfound gardening tools is Clorox® Regular Bleach. Wash the gardening tools that have probably been sitting all winter in your garage or shed, and then soak them for 5 minutes in a solution of ¾ of bleach to 1 gallon of water, then rinse. This simple solution can help prevent the transfer of molds and diseases from old plants to new ones.
- Do you use soil from your compost bin like my family does? Keep up your reusing and recycling by finding a new purpose for that jug of bleach. Once the bottle is empty, carefully cut off the bottom and use the remaining jug as a scoop for composting.
- Want a colorful yard year round? Shop for flower seeds with different blooming seasons and enjoy all the color!
Bring that color inside and decorate your kitchen table with an easy flower centerpiece. Simply trim your flowers and add 1/4 tsp of bleach to the water in your vase. This quick tip will help kill the bacteria in the water and help keep your flowers fresher, longer. What do you do to bring spring into your home?

I have exotic birds and it is import to keep things clean. However, birds have a sensitive systems so you have to be very careful with chemicals. With the proper dilution the bleach works wonders! I am lucky that my birds usually tell me when they have to do their poopie! Makes cleaning easier, LOL And my Sage is the NEST poopie police officer as seen in this VID! http://youtu.be/WmmZ_4F5bfQ
