Day 6: Sayonara, Bacterial-laden Cutting Boards

After tackling Max’s high chair and other kitchen surfaces yesterday, I’m inspired to tackle that harborer of bacteria that lives in my kitchen … the dreaded cutting board.
I have both plastic and wooden boards, and I have to admit that because I can’t put my wood boards into my dishwasher, I never feel like they are “truly” clean. As a result, I have multiple cutting boards: each for different uses — raw meats, fruits and veggies, baking, etc. I recognize that I must have some sort of cutting board neuroses, so today I decided to make sure my cutting boards were super clean by saying “Adios” to any bacteria living on my cutting boards.
I mixed 3 Tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach with a gallon of water and poured that sanitizing solution of bleach goodness over my cutting board! Bacteria, you are no longer invited to dinner! I let the cutting board stand for 2 minutes and then I rinsed again with a 1 tbsp of Clorox® Regular-Bleach diluted in another gallon of water. I didn’t rinse the board this time. I just let it air dry.
Bon Appétit!

My mom always used Clorox on her big handmade wooden block cutting board my dad made her, and there walk in shower was made from river rock and she would clean it to each week with clorox and not only did it make a clean germ free area it really made the rocks shine. I like using the lemon scented clorox for kitchen needs and the lavender scent for my laundry and floor cleaning needs, I'm 51yrs and have used it myself and rembember it being the only best choice for real cleaning as long as I can recall

Wow that's how I feel, because every time I wash my dishes I scrub them like 10 times, I will definitely try my Clorox on my cutting board. I love Clorox for my cleaning around my house because I feel much safe. Thanks Clorox for the chance and all the tips for us moms!!

I learned this years and years ago working at a restaurant. We bleached the bread boards.

I must be over-doing it because i clean the wooden cutting boards, our butcher block and the counter tops with straight bleach on my "cleaning " sponge; which is designated to just the cleaning in the kitchen. I do mix bleach with some water to use in the bathroom.

I always use a Clorox solution on my cutting boards, and like you I have multiple boards. I have one for meat, one for veggies, one for onions only, and one for baking goods (cutting my chocolates and other non-germy type items ;) I have severe OCD, I'm a germ-phobe, with a messy fiance, two kids, a cat, a dog, and living on a farm (tons of flies, boxelders, and tons of other creepy crawlers!)...I can never have enough Clorox. Clorox is my lifeline...seriously. Thanks for sharing your tips! I love this blog. Jamie
