Hi! I'm Tiffany. When I'm not chasing my son around for diaper changes, convincing my daughter not to wear goggles to bed, or trying to get unidentified stains out of my kids' clothes, I work in the marketing department at Clorox.

Holiday Preparations: 4 Things NOT To Do

Whoever came up with the idea to celebrate Thanksgiving and the December holidays so close together should be raked across hot coals—or at least forced to babysit my kids while I prep for the holidays. I barely have enough time to get the cranberry sauce out of my hair before it’s time to hunker down and get ready for December.
Don’t get me wrong, the holidays are truly my favorite time of year. I love seeing the kids excited for family celebrations and getting to indulge into a steamy hot cocoa and other seasonal treats. (Though what’s up with eggnog? I still don’t get eggnog. ). But holidays are also the busiest time of year. So while I haven’t mastered prepping for the holidays without losing my sanity, I have learned 4 things NOT to do.
1. DON’T try out too many new recipes at once
If you’re already under stress from getting all the last minute details done, don’t add trying out a set of brand new recipe to the list. Unless you just won a cooking contest, it’s ok to stick with your tried and true favorites (or your tried and true cans.) Sometimes it’s these favorites that become the holiday traditions for your kids.
2. DON’T leave Cleaning to the last minute
If you’re like me, cleaning gets relegated to the bottom of the to-do list beneath “dental surgery” and “taking my kids to get dental surgery.” But trust me, waiting til the last moment to get the house “guest-ready” is not a good idea. You don’t want to be that host who leaves guests on the doorstep because you’re sprinting to tidy up before opening the door. I know this because I’ve sweatily greeted guests 5 minutes after they’ve rung the doorbell repeatedly with, "Oh sorry, I didn’t hear the doorbell ring. No, really, I’ll hang up your coat for you. Don’t open that closet door. No, I insist. I said DO NOT OPEN the closet door!” At a minimum, give your place a quick wipe down with disinfecting wipes to give some semblance of basic cleaning.
3. DON’T Clean the Oven
You heard me. If you’ve ever needed it, you’ve just gotten permission to step away from the appliance and let it be. Why? Because assuming you’re using the self-clean cycle, that cycle can actually be quite taxing on the oven which means it could fail right as you’re sticking in the Thanksgiving turkey. Instead, wait til after your big meal before tackling the oven cleaning.
4. DON’T Get Too Caught Up in the Hustle and Bustle
Relax. Easier said than done, right? Maybe. But isn’t it worth a shot? Amidst all the cleaning, stuffing various vegetables inside turkey carcasses and shopping for gifts, Mom just needs a glass of wine. And a yoga class. And a pedicure. And a nanny. But remember, you can be an incredible mom, chef, home organizer and savvy shopper. You just don’t have to be all of these in a single day.

delegate, and know its ok to not be perfect! That is a hard lesson learned. But, as you grow older and time goes by, you eventually learn it and figure out that you dont have to do it all. You can buy some things and let others make some things. It will all work out in the end.

I use clorox clean up for everything, spray on shower for fast clean up of mold and grime, kitchen sink for a good shine and clean fresh smell.White clothes with stains that wont come out, patio furniture with dirt, spray and rinse.

As a mom of 6, I've learned to only say YES to a few out-of-family parties. Keeps our Christmas much more relaxed & enjoyable. Also, hosting is actually much simpler for our family than going somewhere, so we host as much as possible the larger gathering. We share the load of prep & clean up.

Since I want to spend as much time as I can with my family on Christmas Day, I prep all I can for the meals the day before. I put chopped vegetables in bags or containers, so all I have to do is put everything together when I cook dinner. I make roll dough in advance so all I have to do is pull it out of the fridge and let it rise when we're opening presents. I'm a "clean as I go" person", and do the same with meal preparation. It makes the day less stressful. I do the same with holiday parties-the less you have to do on the day of, the better!

I try not to get caught up with getting gifts last minute. Because I am somewhat physically handicapped, I prefer to shop online early in the year. I depend primarily on companies who offer free shipping.

I loved the tips, especially not cleaning the oven..Who knew,lol.. As for me, my humble tips are; 1) Shop on-line if possible for gifts and shop through Mypoints.com, a very rewarding website, equipped with promo codes for deeper discounts, where you can redeem points earned for shopping with various Gift Cards, how sweet is that and it's ALL FREE, no club fees, yump! 2) Don't sweat allday in the Kitchen, go pot-luck style and asked family, friends to bring a dish, and keep the menu simple, also, if you're a single parent with very little time, you may want want to prep your side dishes early and freeze them or purchase frozen side dishes like sweet potatoes which is very popular and taste great the next day! 3) Reward yourself with a yoga class or any functional fitness class that keeps you feeling great, as the saying goes " Energy begets Energy' even if it's only 10 mins, every bit helps and don't forget to breathe, yes take time out, even if 2 mins to sit and exhale, exhalations are very good for you and flushes toxins out of your body and increases you physically, and the benefits are mental relaxation; , which we all need, and don't forget to light a scented candle and enjoy some red wine!! ~ ~~Namaste & Happy Holidays ~~
