Hi! I'm Tiffany. When I'm not chasing my son around for diaper changes, convincing my daughter not to wear goggles to bed, or trying to get unidentified stains out of my kids' clothes, I work in the marketing department at Clorox.

What’s Your Cleaning Confession?

We all have dirty little secrets when it comes to cleaning, because let’s face it, as a mom, it’s hard to keep a perfect house without some trade-offs. Here are a few of mine. What are yours? Share your confession below for a chance to win a $100 gift card.
1) I sometimes clean up after my kids because it’s easier than getting them to clean up after themselves.
As much as I’d love to take every opportunity to teach my kids to clean up after themselves, I admit that sometimes it’s just less stressful to pick up after them than to undergo the painstaking process of convincing them to clean up their own messes. As I type this, my living room floor is littered with wooden trains because tonight I preferred to get my preschooler in bed rather than face the 20-minute challenge of convincing my son that Thomas and Gordon didn't want to go for another race around the track.
2) I find weird stuff in my washing machine.
I know I’m supposed to diligently check and empty pockets before items go into the washer, but either it’s really hard to do laundry with a preschooler affixed to one’s leg, or I’m just not a laundry expert As a result, I have found some strange things in my washing machine. Tissue wads and coins are pretty typical for many. But once I also found an entire diaper (clean as a whistle, I might add!), which was clearly tossed into the hamper along with the dirty sweatpants it resided in. It was also clear evidence that I do not sort laundry thoroughly enough. I’ve also found soggy stickers, plastic toys from local fast food chains and too many rocks to count. Some days it’s like my washing machine is where random objects go to die.
3) I’ve been known to “short cut” when company comes.
Instead of cleaning the bathroom, I just scrub the faucets till they shine because hey, a shiny faucet makes it seem like the rest of my bathroom is clean, right? I also make sure the toilet isn’t covered with any potty training mishaps because we all know that a dirty toilet is the most “guest-noticeable” gross-out in a bathroom. And who needs a dead giveaway that you didn’t painstakingly clean up the place before they arrived?

I confess that I love a clean home, but I am also learning to let it go. My relationships with my husband and children are much more important than my need to have everything picked up and tidy. We are clean enough to be healthy, but messy enough to be happy! I don't like it that my sunroom floor never stays clean for more than 10 minutes, but I am learning that harping on my children about wiping their feet isn't showing them the love and tenderness I want them to feel from me! Clean is wonderful - if I had more energy I would clean more thoroughly, but in this season of my life I am choosing to spend my limited energies not on cleaning, but building relationships. With one teen and one soon to be teen I think it's more important. When we have the empty nest the house will sparkle and stay that way ... maybe!

My confession is when company shows up I hurry and clean the toilet super quick- having males in the house the toilet lid doesnt always stay down and we have animals so I cant use anything in the toilet that stays and cleans after each flush! Clorox to the rescue!

I wipe the walls down with clorox wipes by the front door right before company comes so that they instantly know my house is clean because it smells clean. I use scented bleach on EVERYTHING especially on the kids tub toys. It gets the slime out like no ones business. I have also used it on my concete/brick steps and siding to get the green mold off.

I am soooo glad to know I am not the only one with shortcuts ...because other people seem to have spotless houses and mine is sooo lived in, but clean! :) Clorox makes me feel like I at least killed the germs if not the mess. My shortcut: I clean the kitchen, and then throw my wet, dirty dish towel on the floor and rub it around on the floor to get up the dog hair if I am in a big hurry and can't mop. Then the towel gets washed, with Clorox.

if company calls and you don't have time to clean--make sure the powder room is clean and then spray (and wipe it away) a little wood cleaner on something in your entryway--the smell will trick the senses of your guests and they'll assume you've cleaned even if you haven't had time.

If my husband brings home really old, moldy leftovers in a cheap plastic container, I'll just throw the whole thing away. And since I don't have a dishwasher, if I don't have time to clean all the dishes before we have company, I'll throw the dirty dishes in the oven to get them out of sight.

Before I will cook anything for a potluck, company coming over, or treat for work, I have to complete bleach the kitchen down and the dishes to be sure I am not spreading any germs with my food or from my kitchen.

When in a hurry to clean the kitchen sink, I often just pour Clorox in the sink and let it sit a few minutes. No scrubbing and its shines.

I have a room that is empty it use to have a hotwater in it and we moved it so now I keep a big box and a clothes basket in it just incase I get caught with company coming on short notice so I put everything in here until the next day then I put it back where it belongs.

I use the clorox disentfectant wipes on counters and especially bathroom/kitchen floors if i can't actually SCRUB them. I make sure my bed is made every day; makes the room look less messy. Also, I have a 50/50 mixture of Clorox and water and use that to spray the shower/tub in lieu of a good cleaning!
