Tiffany, Clorox

Hi! I'm Tiffany. When I'm not chasing my son around for diaper changes, convincing my daughter not to wear goggles to bed, or trying to get unidentified stains out of my kids' clothes, I work in the marketing department at Clorox.

What’s Your Cleaning Confession?

We all have dirty little secrets when it comes to cleaning, because let’s face it, as a mom, it’s hard to keep a perfect house without some trade-offs. Here are a few of mine. What are yours? Share your confession below for a chance to win a $100 gift card.

1)   I sometimes clean up after my kids because it’s easier than getting them to clean up after themselves.

As much as I’d love to take every opportunity to teach my kids to clean up after themselves, I admit that sometimes it’s just less stressful to pick up after them than to undergo the painstaking process of convincing them to clean up their own messes. As I type this, my living room floor is littered with wooden trains because tonight I preferred to get my preschooler in bed rather than face the 20-minute challenge of convincing my son that Thomas and Gordon didn't want to go for another race around the track.

2)   I find weird stuff in my washing machine.

I know I’m supposed to diligently check and empty pockets before items go into the washer, but either it’s really hard to do laundry with a preschooler affixed to one’s leg, or I’m just not a laundry expert As a result, I have found some strange things in my washing machine. Tissue wads and coins are pretty typical for many. But once I also found an entire diaper (clean as a whistle, I might add!), which was clearly tossed into the hamper along with the dirty sweatpants it resided in. It was also clear evidence that I do not sort laundry thoroughly enough.   I’ve also found soggy stickers, plastic toys from local fast food chains and too many rocks to count. Some days it’s like my washing machine is where random objects go to die.

3)  I’ve been known to “short cut” when company comes.

Instead of cleaning the bathroom, I just scrub the faucets till they shine because hey, a shiny faucet makes it seem like the rest of my bathroom is clean, right?  I also make sure the toilet isn’t covered with any potty training mishaps because we all know that a dirty toilet is the most “guest-noticeable” gross-out in a bathroom.  And who needs a dead giveaway that you didn’t painstakingly clean up the place before they arrived?

I AM MOM OF 2 AND GRANDMOTHER ALSO... I ENJOY TO SEE A GREAT ORGANIZATION ON THE HOUSE. IF I AM ORGANIZED, I FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING IS CLEAN BUT IS NOT!! AND EVERYTHING SEEMS LIKE TOO!! TOO MANY YEARS AGO, WHEN MY KIDS WERE LITTLE, I SPENT TOO MUCH TIME DOING SHINE THE HOUSE, AND NOBODY VISITED ME. SO, I CHANGED MY STYLE.... WELL, ANYWAY, EVERYTHING IS ALMOST CLEAN. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? THE WORD ALMOST, hahahaha.

I don't clean my bedroom very often. I know I should as we spend a lot of time there, but I tend to skip it because I know no one else will see it.

My secret? Closets have doors for a reason. Shove the mess in, shut the closet door, open the front door and greet your guests with a smile.

I;ll admit I've thrown all the things i've gathered into my bed room and shut the door. My place looks clean to the company visiting, but when they leave I can't sleep until I've cleaned out my bedroom!

My not at all dirty secret is that I have a cleaning woman come in to do everything except the dishes and the laundry. She loves Clorox Wipes for the kitchen, by the way.

I care more if rooms look nice than are actually "clean." Good lighting does wonders.

During dry seasons, when operating humidifiers, add a couple drops og bleach in the water to keep the machine clean and germ-free...

Keep a disinfectant spray by bed... when making bed, spray over pillows and beddings... to keep the beddings smelling fresher in between laundry and also to help with possible bed bugs when you travel often... Also, when changing sheets, completely spray down the mattress and the pillows and let air dry before getting the fresh beddings...

Before leaving house on an exteneded travel, pour 1-2 cups-ish of bleach in all drains in the house to prevent roaches to come through when the water dries in the pipes... Roaches do not like the smell of bleach... oh, and don't forget to pour some in the toilets...
